About Clare Grey
As some of you may know the lovely Clare Grey has recently left Input for a new role elsewhere. We would like to send her a big thanks for all her hard work and commitment, without which PPIP would not exist! Her support over the years has been crucial to the development of PPIP and at our most recent members General Meeting in November this year; we awarded Clare with a lifetime membership award to PPIP to show our great appreciation. Clare's story can still be read below.
I joined the Input pain management psychology team in December 2004. Shortly after, a fellow colleague (Christina Giannakopoulou), and I discussed the idea of setting up a support service with the rest of the Input team, from this idea Christina and I conducted a piece of research that aimed to establish what you, the Chronic Pain sufferer, needed in terms of ongoing support after completing the INPUT pain management programme. It was established that ex-patients were very interested in a support group being set up, particularly a group that would allow ex-patients to meet other people living with chronic pain, but also a support group that would provide ongoing up-to-date information about how to self-manage living with chronic pain.
Since this piece of research this idea has developed into paIN PUT in perspective, (PPIP) with a lot of hard work and dedication from the PPIP committee, the financial support of the Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Charity, as well as the support and guidance of members of the Input team (especially Dr. Camilla Davies, Dr. Sarah Barker, Lucie Knight and Dr. Emma Harrold) as well as the Charity (Ruth Bishop and Anne Martin).
My current involvement with PPIP includes attending the monthly committee meetings to support the committee to achieve the PPIP mission statement aims. At these meetings we discuss the set-up and ongoing progress of PPIP. In addition I act as a point of liaison between the PPIP committee and Input. I also help the committee to coordinate the production of different aspects of the PPIP support service, whether this is the website, newsletters or planning a social gathering.
I see PPIP as an extremely worthwhile and encouraging endeavour for Input graduates. This service is multi-dimensional; newsletters, a website, social gatherings and a source of information and therefore is invaluable in supporting Input graduates to continue, or in some cases return to, the pain management strategies learnt during your time at Input.
